Imphal, December 29 2015: The downfall of the Congress party which is infamous for rampant corruption and non-devolution of powers to urban local bodies and Gram Panchayats is written on the wall, asserted BJP Manipur president Th Chaoba.

Speaking to media persons at their Nityaipat Chuthek office today, Th Chaoba said that the ruling Congress party is unable to put up candidates in all the Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat seats which go to polls on January 11 and this is a glaring testimony of their declining popularity.

181 BJP candidates will contest in the upcoming Municipal Council poll while ruling Congress party will be represented by just 199 candidates, Th Chaoba said.

Like in the by-election to Thangmeiband AC and Thongju AC, Congress party's muscle power and money power would not be able to influence voters in the forthcoming local bodies election, asserted the State BJP president.

In Oinam Municipal Council, Congress party has failed to nominate a single candidate.

In Thongkhong Lakshmi Nagar Panchayat, which has a total of 11 Councillors, only one Congress candidate will contest the election.

In Wangoi and Samurou which have a total of 20 Councillors, Congress party is able to nominate just 3 candidates, he asserted.

Thoubal Municipal Council, home Constituency of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, has a total of 18 Councillors.

Surprisingly, just 8 Congress party candidates will contest the election, he said.

The present scenario depicts the downfall of ruling Congress party, Th Chaoba maintained.

Pointing out that Councillors of Municipal Councils and Members of Gram Panchayats are given monthly honorarium of just Rs 3000 and Rs 1500 whereas ADC Members are given monthly honorarium of Rs 10000, Chaoba called upon all the people to teach the Congress Government a befitting lesson for their discriminatory treatment among elected Members of local bodies.

BJP has also launched the election campaign under the theme "Support BJP", "Save Manipur" to garner widespread support to defeat the Congress party.
