Awareness campaign on crime against children from Jan

An awareness campaign on crimes against children will be launched from January next year to fight child abuse in all the districts of the State, Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR), Government of Manipur, Chairperson S Saratkumar stated.
The campaign will cover awareness on child abuse, statutory rape and all forms of cruelty to children like punishment at schools, the MCPCR Chairman said.
Child Welfare Committee and NGOs under Social Welfare Department; Government and private schools and institutions under the Department of Education and Police Departments are said to join MCPR in the campaign.
The awareness campaign can not only provide insight into the different types of crimes against children in most neglected areas, it could also inspect the quality of education provided to these children, he added.
MCPCR, through the awareness campaign will attempt to put across in-depth the Juvenile Justice Act, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Right to Education Act to the people.
The chairperson said that fifteen cases of crime against children came up since he had assumed office in September this year.
Recruitment of Chairperson and members against the vacant posts at the Child Welfare Committee will also be carried out soon, he added.
