Body seeks action from GOI

Imphal, April 25 2011:
The Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders, a joint programme of the World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT) and the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) sought urgent intervention from the India Government regarding death threats received by four members of Macha Leima.
An urgent appeal was sent to the Government of India following the matter was informed by Centre for Organisation Research and Education (CORE) to the Observatory on April 16 .
According to the appeal dispatched to the India Government, Ibempishak Takhellambam, Memcha Sagolsem, Anita Konjengbam and Momon Mayanglambam received death threats from unknown miscreants after they sought information on MGNREGS through RTI.
The representation said that physical and psychological integrity of the four Manipuri women and all the human rights defenders in India be guaranteed.
Among other demands, it also pressed for thorough, impartial and transparent probe regarding the threats received by the four Manipuri women.
