MKS concludes Go Green Mission

The last phase of Go Green Mission 2014 organised by Maram Students' Union (MKS) was successfully concluded on August 20 at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Maram.
The mission was the 6th annual initiative of MKS to create environmental awareness and initiate massive tree plantation.
The programme began with a special invocation prayer led by Rev Fr James, Principal, DBS and was attended by over 1000 students of DBS.
Colonel Sandeep Pandey, Commandant 35 AR; Ishak Shah, MPS, Superintendent of Police, Senapati and AK Singh, Officer Commanding, 98 RCC were the dignitaries present during the concluding programme.
Public leaders, women societies, local clubs and youths organizations were also among the others who attended the programme.
Addressing the gathering, Assam rifles educated on the disasters of global warming and climate change caused increasingly by human activities.
However, in the lighter vein, the officer cautioned that to safe the environment and planet earth, human efforts need to be streamlined and stead fast.
Ishak Shah, SP, Senapati recalled his times when he was the OC, Mao PS, that the area along the Highway was covered with trees and enriched by presence of wild animals.
However, with the passage of time, the area have become sparse.
Quoting Mahatma Gandhi's "The earth can provide us the need of humanity but not its greed", AK Singh stressed on the importance of environment in human lives.
Led by the dignitaries and assisted by the Scouts and Guides team of the institution, tree-plantation was conducted at the school premises.
Around 500 saplings were later handed over to the school authority.
The GO GREEN Mission 2014 was inaugurated on July 25, 2014 in collaboration with the District Administration, through the patronage of DC Jacintha Lazarus DC, Senapati at District HQ.
The mission was carried under 4 phases in Senapati District HQ; Maram Khullen Circle; Willong Circle Area and Don Bosco Higher secondary School.
