Imphal, December 15 2020:
The Cabinet meeting scheduled tomorrow at Kamjong district headquarters has been put off indefinitely but the Government has not yet spelt out any reason for the postponement.
Even though the Government did not issue any official statement for putting off the Cabinet meeting till the time of filing this report, some sources maintained that the Cabinet meeting has been put off indefinitely as one family member of a land donor who has been taking pro-active roles in taking up several development programmes in Kamjong district has expired.
The Government does not think it fit for the Chief Minister and his Cabinet Ministers to hold any meeting and interact with the local people of Kamjong when the land donor's family members are in grief, according to the sources.
At the same time, one influential civil society organisation has been fervently appealing to the State Government not to hold any Cabinet meeting at Kamjong district headquarters.
The particular civil society organisation used strong words and asked the State Government not to come to Kamjong district headquarters for any Cabinet meeting.
It is possible that the Cabinet meeting scheduled tomorrow was put off indefinitely because of all these reasons, said the sources.
Notably, certain quarters raised strong objection when the then Chief Minister Okram Ibobi created seven new districts including Kamjong in 2016 .
Since the BJP-led coalition Government was sworn in, Cabinet meetings were held at different hill district headquarters one after another, the latest being Senapati district headquarters.
Kamjong district headquarters was supposed to be the next venue and local MLA K Leishiyo even renovated a hall, specifically for the scheduled Cabinet meeting which has now been postponed.
