Imphal, December 15 2014:
Rather than working for the welfare of underprivileged sections of the society, the incumbent Government has been working against the economically weaker people.
On account of this anti-poor attitude, impoverished people of Heirok A/C have not been getting their share of PDS items, alleged MPP president N Sovakiran.
Speaking to media persons at their office today, Sovakiran said that each BPL household of Heirok A/C have been getting only 8 Kgs of rice per month even though they are entitled to 35 Kgs of rice per month.
Accusing the CAF&PD Minister who also represent Heirok A/C of following a policy which only multiplies the woes of poor people, Sovakiran asserted that no distinction was made between BPL, APL and AAY card holders during distribution of PDS items at least in Heirok A/C.Distributing just 8 Kgs of rice whereas all beneficiaries are entitled to 35 Kgs of rice per month is sheer injustice.
Many families who did not vote in favour of the incumbent MLA have been denied all kinds of PDS items, Sovakiran alleged.
MGNREGS has been transformed into an opportunity for doing contract works by elected representatives.
Although the guideline says that there should be 100 days' work in a year, the job card holders are given work for only 18 to 20 days while work for the rest of the days are executed using modern machinery.
Instead of distributing job cards to the MGNREGS workers, elected representatives have been keeping all the job cards with them and they have been using the job cards in encashing huge amounts for their personal aggrandisement, Sovakiran asserted.
Monetary assistance of Rs 70,000 for the valley and Rs 75,000 for the hills given under IAY for construction of houses has been swindled by elected representatives while the beneficiaries were given just one or two bundle(s) of GI sheets, he added.
