Imphal Book Fair begins

The cash incentive of State Literature Award would be hiked to Rs 3 lakh from next year.
At the same time, the cash incentive of the Lifetime Achievement Award would also be increased to Rs 5 lakh.
This was stated by Education Minister M Okendro while speaking at the inaugural function of the 23rd edition of Imphal Book Fair, 2014 which was kick-started today at Thangmeiband Athletic Union (THAU) ground.
M Okendro also said that efforts are made to set up e-library at 28 colleges of the State under RUSA.
Besides planning to recruit librarians for Govt colleges, the Govt is also considering to fill vacant posts of teachers in colleges, he said.
The ten-day long book fair is being jointly organised by State Central Library, Dept of Art and Culture, Govt of Manipur and Raja Rammohun Roy Library Foundation, Kolkata.
A total of 110 stalls are opened at the fair.
Nine books, 2015 calendar and a souvenir were released during the inaugural function.
MLA L Ibomcha Singh, RK Jhaljit, retd Principal, LMS Law College, Imphal and K Radhakumar Singh, Secretary, Art and Culture also attended the inaugural function.
