Imphal, March 15 2014 : Ahead of AICC Vice-President Rahul Gandhi's visit to the State, security measures have been stepped up at various locations in Thoubal district today while four UGs were arrested by Imphal East police in different operations during the last 24 hours.

Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to address a public meeting on March 19 at Wangjing Kodompokpi Ground in Thoubal district.

Combing operations were carried out at Wangjing Wangkhei Sanabam Leirak and Moirangmayum Leirak in Thoubal district this morning around 8.30 under the supervision of the district Additional SP (Ops), Dr S Ibomcha.

However, no arrest or detention has been reported.

Meanwhile, the Imphal East district police conducted cordon and search operation at Haokip Veng and Mahabali Kabui Khul under Porompat PS today morning and detained 13 persons who failed to produce proper identity proof and handed them over to the Porompat Police Station.

The search operation, led by Achouba, Officer In-charge Imphal East Commandos, was conducted under the Supervision of Singhajit Additional SP (Ops) Imphal East from early morning around 5 .

13 persons including 3 non-locals who failed to produce proper identity proof were detained and handed over to the Porompat Police Station for further verification.

In unrelated incidents, Imphal East district police arrested four militants of three different underground outfits including a woman who was reportedly involved in grenade attack at the residence of Ukhrul MLA Samuel Risom at Deulahlane, during the last 24 hours.

According to a police source, Imphal East commandos arrested two cadres of PREPAK (Pro) along with one demand letter from JNIMS main entrance gate during frisking and checking yesterday noon conducted under the supervision of Singhajit, Additional SP (Ops) Imphal East.

The arrested PREPAK (Pro) cadres have been Identified as Khaidem Joy alias Ingocha (40) S/o Ibetombi of Maiba Khul Maning Leikai and Moirangthem Budha (45) S/o (L) Samu of Nongmeibung Seram Leirak and both of them are working under one Jiten, a SS Captain of PREPAK Pro, the police said.

The source further said that the same team of Imphal East district police arrested one woman cadre of Manipur Tribal Revolutionary Army from near Khuman Lampak Inter State Bus terminus.

The arrested MTRA woman cadre has been identified as Thingreiwon Vasom alias Athing (45) W/o Jimik Vasom of Lamlang Gate, Ukhrul.

The arrested MTRA cadres was personally involved in the bomb attack at the residence of MLA Ukhrul Samuel Risom at Deulalane on Feb 19 around 7.30 pm, the source added.

At the same time, a team of Imphal East district police under supervision of Singhajit Additional SP (Operation) conducted a search operation at New Lambulane area under Porompat Police Station at around 3.30pm today.

A source said that during the search operation, one cadre of KRA (U) identified as Nguljalen Haokip alias Len (37) S/o Tonglam Haokip of Loibol Khonou Sajan village was arrested along with a mobile handset.

Sources also said that Len is working under the C-in-C of the outfit, Hegin.
