World Kidney Day observed 1 month free dialysis at Sky hospital

World Kidney Day was observed across the State today.
As part of the World Kidney Day observance, Sky Hospital and Research Centre, RIMS Road has started a month-long free dialysis service using high end machine today.
This is the first time a private hospital in the State has extended free dialysis service using high end German made Dialog B-Braun machine to needy patients.
Sky Hospital will provide free dialysis service till April 11, according to L Shyamuel Singh, MD, SH&RC.
L Shyamuel Singh said that 8-10 percent of the adult population have some form of kidney damage with millions meeting premature deaths worldwide due to complications related to chronic kidney disease (CKD) such as heart attacks and strokes.
Since high BP and diabetes are the most common causes of chronic kidney disease, early detection of diabetes and high BP will help prevent development of CKD, he said.
At the same time, Langol View Charitable Clinic and Maternity Home and Dr Lalmohon Memorial Trust, Kombirei Keithel, Lamphelpat jointly observed the World Kidney Day today at the conference hall of LVCC&MH.
On the other hand, the All Manipur Kidney Transplant Patients' Welfare Association observed World Kidney Day at Manipur Press Club today.
Thanga AC MLA T Mangibabu, Kakching AC MLA Y Surchandra and Directorate of Health Services Director Dr Okram Ibomcha graced the function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, T Mangibabu said that most of the people in the State are not health conscious.
Saying that 80 percent of the population are frequently affected by water borne diseases, the MLA said that the State needs adequate supply of safe drinking water.
In his speech, Dr Okram Ibomcha said that apart from kidney transplant, liver and bone marrow transplants are possible now.
The Director said that he would request the State Government to introduce a scheme to provide free medicines to kidney transplant patients.
Regarding Swine Flu, Dr Ibomcha said that persons whose immune system is weak are more vulnerable.
He urged the public to contact the Helpline phone numbers in case they experience any symptom of the disease.
Directorate of Health Services is ready to deliver medicines in their respective houses in case any kidney patient experience fever.
Prof LK Sharatchandra of RIMS and Dr Gulliver Potshangbam of Shija Hospital also spoke at the function as resource persons.
