First organic king chilli harvest begins in Shirarakhong

Ukhrul, August 09 2017:
As part of an initiative to boost organic farming in the State, the first batch of organic King Chilli (U Morok) was harvested at Shirarakhong, Ukhrul district today thereby marking the State’s first venture into organic farming .
Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation Director as well as Project officer of Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) S Bhabichand who attended the event as one of the dignitaries stated that the people of Manipur will be able to experience the organic king chillies of Shirarakhong now .

The Director further stated that the plantation of organic king chillies began its venture since 2016 at Shirarakhong under the supervision of Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCD-NER) .
Bhabichand further stated that the Shirarakhong chillies would be sold in front of Horticulture and Soil Conservation Department office from tomorrow onwards .
The initiative to enhance organic farming in Shirarakhong was conducted by MOMA, Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation in collaboration with MOVCD-NER and ‘The Garden Care’, Yaiskul.
