Imphal, April 06 2012:
Reminding that substantial portion of the valley districts get flooded in case there is breaching in the embankment of three rivers that criss-cross Keirao assembly constituency, MLA Thamarjeet Karam advised Irrigation and Flood Control Department officials to ensure that the dykes are properly maintained.
Accompanied by IFCD's Flood Control Division-I Assistant Engineers (AEs) Md Liyaqat Ali, Ksh Kameshor Singh and A Khogen Singh, the newly elected MLA today inspected conditions of Imphal, Iril and Kongba river banks ahead of the mon-soon season.
Noting dilapidated condition of riverbanks at different points of the three rivers, Thamarjeet also lamented absence of retaining walls at certain vulnerable sections where mudslides triggered by light rainfall in the past few hours have been causing inconveniences to motorists as well as pedestrians.
Regretting that the retaining wall at Taokhong Kiyamgei Muslim area has been constructed without iron/steel rods and strongly suggesting there is need for retaining wall construction at Kiyamgei Muslim Purana Masjid section, he also proposed to the AEs for constructing retaining walls at Waikhong Khongnang Makhong and Kiyamgei Khoirom Leikai sections of the Iril river.
Local womenfolk also complained to the MLA of sub-standard retaining wall works at Arapti Awang Leikai and Soibam Munal areas.
