PMGSY road connecting all the inter-villages under Sahamphung block with the District Headquarters remain in deplorable condition throughout monsoon season due to faulty road alignment and without any maintenance, said Sambu Raiping Long president, Lungshim Kasar.
The SRL president made the above statement during a press conference held on Saturday at Ikror Hotel, Hamleikhong Ukhrul.
It was participated by SRL Student Union president, Ephraim Rayi and members of the executive committee.
Lungshim Kasar said that none of the roads constructed under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in the Sambu areas (extreme Easter border villages of Ukhrul District) were found to be satisfactory.
"PMGSY road from Shirui to Kachouphung, Maka Lamkhai to Maka village, Maka Lamkhai to Chahong have all become seasonal roads.
The road from Shirui to Kachouphung village, more than 100 km long which connects at least 15 villages, is still in a deplorable condition due to faulty road alignment", he added.

He mentioned that SRL has approached the concerned department on numerous occasions in the past for rectification.
"On April 4, 2021, the Work Minister Biswajit along with MLA Alfred Arthur Kanngam, Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul & Kamjong District and Tangkhul CSO leaders inspected the whole stretch of the PMGSY road from Shirui to Kachouphung" .
"During a brief meeting held at Khayang village, the Work Minister announced to rectify and divert the PMGSY road from Chammu village to Phungtha via Khayang", he asserted.
LM Abel, convener of Sambu Area PMGSY & Education Committee mentioned that the first phase of PMGSY road construction began in 2008, but due to bad quality of work the work programme for second phase could not be executed in time.
He continued that the Sambu area villages have unanimously resolved to oppose 'Second phase PMGSY road construction' until the 'First Phase' work is implemented effectively.
Later, a memorandum was also submitted to the Chief Minister through Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul to intervene in the matter and expedite PMGSY work at the earliest.
Sambu Raiping Long further cautioned the State Government and concerned authority to initiate PMGSY construction within September, failing which SRL would resort to intense form of democratic agitation.
