Imphal, July 29:
A fresh heavy landslide as devastating as the which hit Keithelmanbis Gopibung village has destroyed about 30 homesteads of Nepali villages of Mukuli, Chandraman and Kalapa-har, according to the villagers of the area.
The three villages are within the radius of 3 km from the Keithelmanbi-Gopibung village where the recent mudslides devas-tations had inflicted heavy losses to the people of the area.
The landslides had also blocked NH-39 for several days.
The villagers also said that two suspension bridges over the Kali river in the area had been washed away by the flooding water.
Dilli Ram Poudyal, who is the Pradhan of the Kalapahar Gram Panchayat told NNN that houses in the three Nepali villages had been destroyed beyond redemption by the landslides, which have been occurring reguarly whenever there is rain adding that more landslides will occur if the rain continues.
The pradhan of the area also said that about 200 people are now homeless and are staying with friends and relatives in the neighbouring villages with no help coming forward from any organisation and the Government.
Cattle-sheds, corn and paddy fields of the villagers have also been destroyed completely, said Dilli Ram Poudyal.
In Tulibari area in the IT road just 5 km away from Kangpokpi the plight of the people is pathetic.
The pradhan further said that the water which has been seeping forth from under the ground after the landslides is hot and suggested that a survey by geologists may be needed.
He also appealed to the Government of Manipur to address the plight of the people at the earliest.
Reports received by NNN said that more landslides will occur if the rain continues.
Many villagers have also reported to have fled the area in fear of more devastations.
The impact of the recent numerous landslides were so strong that many houses developed cracks, forcing the villagers to flee, said the villagers of the area.
Mention may be made that the Tulibari landslides had blocked the Imphal-Tamei road.
