The Manorama Death Inquiry Commission will be appointing a senior counsel to examine the ailing Khumanlei, mother of deceased Manorama, at her residence to speed up the proceedings of the probe instituted to look into the circumstances leading to the death of Manorama.
The order to appoint the senior counsel would be issued either today or tomorrow by the chairperson of the panel, C Upendra Singh, retired District and Sessions Judge, a highly placed source in the panel told The Sangai Express.
Mention may be made here that Khumanlei was earlier hospitalised at RIMS hospital following complaints of pains on her body following the alleged assault by personnel of 17 Assam Rifles during the arrest of Manorama on the intervening night of July 10 and 11.After appointing the counsel, the inquiry panel will issue an order to examine Khumanlei during the first week of August, the source said.
Meanwhile OC, Irilbung PS who is the Investigating Officer of the two FIRs registered in connection with the killing of the 32 year old woman has submitted the second post mortem report of Manorama before the commission.
The IO had earlier furnished the first PM report along with the two FIRs before the same panel.
Tomorrow the inquiry panel would examine the two doctors of the Forensic Department RIMS namely Dr Nabachandra and Dr Memchoubi who among others conducted the first post mortem on Monorama.
The doctors who conducted the second PM examination will testify probably on August 2, the source also said.
So far the panel has examined two witnesses, from Bamon Kampu area.
Yesterday the commission visited and examined the spot at near Yaipharok Maring Village, where the body of Manorama was found on the morning of July 11.
