The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee has written to the Prime Minister urging him to revoke the Armed Forces Special Powers Act from the State and to complete the shifting of Assam Rifles from Kangla within the stipulated time announced earlier, which is December 31 this year.
The written missive, which was also addressed to AICC president Sonia Gandhi highlighted the turmoil in the State ever since the bullet riddled body of Th Manorama was found after she was picked up from her house by 17 Assam Rifles personnel.
Informing the Prime Minister of the intense agitation launched by various political parties, NGOs, women bodies and students, the MPCC said that the sentiments of the people are running high and added that as a party which respect the aspirations and emotions of the party, the Indian National Congress should not hesitate to lift the said Act from the State.
