Condemnations against the custodial killing of Thangjam Manorama Devi and demands for lifting of Armed Forces Special Powers Act 1958 from Manipur continues to gain momentum even as several organisations lambasted the State police force for use of force to disperse democratic form of agitations.
The organisations also condemned the SPF Government for lack of initiatives to concede to the people�s demand for repealing draconian laws from the State.
Organisations condemning the security excesses and demanding revocation of AFSPA are Kangleipak Meetei Mayek Academy (Khurai Konsam Leikai), Manipur State Committee of Democratic Youth Federation of India and Nongpok Panthoibi Nupi Marup (Kongpal Chanam Leikai).
Kathor Students� Union, Ukhrul taking serious note of security force excesses while foiling democratic agitations also strongly condemned brutal use of police force to disperse students of Manipur University who attempted sit-in-protest near Raj Bhavan on July 26 afternoon.
PHED Workers and Employees Organisation strongly condemning the killing of Manorama also extended support to the ongoing agitation for punishment of the guilty 17 Assam Rifles personnel and scrapping of AFSPA.
Condemning the security excesses under the immunity of AFSPA Yek Taret Loop, Langol Housing Complex urged the State Government to prevent prompt action to prevent the current protests going out of hands.
Decrying prolonged imposition of AFSPA under the guise of containing insurgency movement Manipur State Council of All India Youth Federation at its special meeting held yesterday at Irawat Bhawan resolved to urge the Manipur Government press Central authorities for removal of black laws.
To relieve the grief stricken people who have suffered tremendously due to security excesses as insurgency problems the Federation also stressed upon the Centre to declare ceasefire with all the insurgent outfits operating in Manipur and facilitate political dialogue to solve the problem.
The youth organisation also demanded expediting process for punishment of AR men and shift the security force from the sacred Kangla without further delay, said a press release adding that memoranda would be submitted to the Prime Minister, Home Minister and Defence Minister on the matter while pledging unstinted support to the ongoing agitation.
Along with the National Council of AIYF the State unit will also launch agitation to highlight the problems, it said.
Meanwhile, Manipur State Council of All india Students� Federation charging the State Govern- ment�s inefficient administration as the main cause for the current turmoil also strongly condemned closure of educational institutions instead of trying to solve the crisis.
Asserting that under no circumstances should careers of students be compromised as part of precautionary measure to foil democratic form of ongoing protests the student body demanded immediate revocation of educational institute closure at Imphal East and West districts immediately.
