Guwahati, April 21:
At least nine people, including one CRPF man and four cops were killed and several others injured in two separate road accidents in Assam in the last 24 hours.
Some of thedeceased are yet to be identified, police said.
The first incident took place at Nayapara area in Bongaingaon (NH 31) district of Lower Assam at around 9 pm on Sunday when a passenger bus carrying a marriage party had a head on collision with a Maruti car.
The four passengers of the Maruti car died on the spot, police said.
The deceased were identified as Superintendent of Dhubri Jail Sarbananda Das (48), constable of Dhubri jail Dulen Bora (38), pharmacist of Dhubri jail Partha Pratim Bora (33) and the driver Ratul Thakuria (35) .
The Jail Superintendent was on his way to Dhubri from Guwahati in the vehicle after procuring some of the goods for the jail, police said adding that the bus, which was carrying a marriage party was heading towards Khagarpur.
Some passengers of the bus received minor injuries, police said adding that the driver of the bus is still absconding.
The second incident took place at the historical Jongal Bolohu rampart on the National Highway no 37 under Roha police station in Nagaon district.
Five persons were killed on the spot while at least five others received serious injuries.
The accident occurred at around 10.45 am on Monday when a passenger bus of the Green Valley Travels had a head on collision with a Truck coming from the opposite direction.
The bus was on its way to Lakhimpur from Guwahati.
The deceased also included a CRPF personnel, police said adding that the driver of the bus also died on the spot.
The other victims are yet to be identified, police said.
"The condition of the five of the injured were stated to be serious and they have been referred to the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) immediately," police added.
