Imphal, January 14 2017:
The Manipur Homeguard Employees Association has urged the State Government to fulfil their demands before January 31 threatening that they will be constrained to launch a cease work strike from February 1 and stay off poll duty in case the Government fails to meet the deadline.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club, president of the association Yanglem Mangi said that the Supreme Court had issued an order in 2015 stating that the pay scale of a homeguard should be the same as that of a police constable and it has not been translated to action till now.
A sit in protest was also staged on January 7 with regard to the demand.
After a talk, the DGP had assured them that a written statement has been submitted to the Home Department to discuss the matter immediately, he added.
Mangi asserted that they have unanimously decided to cease work in the forthcoming assembly election if their demand continues to be neglected.
A case was filed at the High Court regarding the refusal of the Government to address their demand and a ruling was passed on January 12 asking the State Government to follow the directives of the Supreme Court's order and issue an appropriate letter within three months.
A communication letter of the verdict will be submitted to the State Government on Monday.
The association has urged the State Government to fulfil their demand before the election.
