Supposedly ancient relics were uncovered during excavation works near Iril river bank today.
Second World War Imphal Campaign Foundation along with State Archeology Resource person and Manipur College Geography professor Ng Nandeshwar reportedly uncovered the ancient relics consisting of pieces of pottery during an excavation.
According to Nandeshwar, the relics found near the river bank have been sampled and will be carbon dated.
He pointed out the possibility that the river banks where the relics were found could have been used as a trench or a fort during ancient days.
Second World War Imphal Campaign Foundation co-founder Yumnam Rajeshwar said that around 100 pieces of pots were recovered from the excavation site.
The site is still visible on Google Map.
The excavation site located near the river bank is surrounded by a moat.
