The All Manipur Health Services Doctors' Association has urged the State Government to appoint the eligible senior most officer as the Director of the Department of Health Services.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, general secretary of the All Manipur Health Services Doctors' Association Dr Arke said that today was the last day for the Director of State Health Services at the office and the State Government has not ascertained or informed about the appointment for the post which will be lying vacant from December 1.Appealing not to re-engage or extend the term of the Director which expired today, Dr Arke on behalf of the association urged the State Government to appoint the eligible and senior most officer as the Director as usual.
An emergency executive meeting of the association was called yesterday to discuss the matter, he said while adding that a letter stating their request has also been sent to the officials concerned.
Retired Director and advisor of the association, Dr Sh Surchandra Sharma who was also present at the press meet, stated that the Department has its own well organised service rule.
The service rule, since 1982, mentions clearly about norms for appointment and retirement of the Director, however no rule about re-engagement is mentioned, he said adding that there was no such rule while he was the Director and post his retirement.
Saying that the association is apprehensive about the possible extension of service of the incumbent Director, he appealed to the State Government to clear the apprehension and appoint eligible an officer as the Director of the Department.
Another retired Director of Manipur Health Services Department and advisor of the association, Dr Th Suresh Singh said that there is a long tradition of handing over the post of Director to the senior most doctor and appealed all concerned not to break the tradition.
He also urged all concerned to appoint the senior most eligible officer as the Director and ensure that there is no disturbance in the promotion line of other deserving candidates.
