Imphal, October 23 2015 :
The 48 hour bandh called by the United Naga Council against the three Bills passed by the State Assembly on August 31 as well as the 'anti-tribal rules, Acts, notifications' passed earlier.
No inter-district vehicles (hill districts) left Imphal today with no vehicles coming towards Imphal either.
In Senapati district, day 1 of the bandh was total with deserted streets, closed shops, poor activities in Government offices and banks marking the day at different areas of Senapati Dhqs, Maram and other places, reports our correspondent.
Sources said that the market near Mao gate was however partially busy with local shops opened even as commercial and private vehicles remained stranded along NH-2 .
With the number of vehicles especially trucks ferrying essential goods expected to increase by tomorrow, some trucks were seer stranded at Hengbung composite check post since October 22 due to the KPLF/KPLA economic blockade.
Volunteers at Senapati Dhqs strictly monitored the movement of even private vehicles but vans transporting students were given some degree of relaxation.
In Maram, both vehicles stayed off the road while business establishments remained shut for the day.
The the 48 hour bandh will conclude on Saturday midnight.
However, more trucks are expected to get stranded at Hengbung and Senapati Dhqs due to the economic blockade called by the KPLF/KPLA which will conclude only on October 31, 2015 .
Senapati police personnel and Assam Rifles troops were also seen along the NH-2 keeping a close watch to thwart any untoward incident.
Our Kangpokpi correspondent adds that the 48 hr total bandh called in tribal areas by the United Naga Council partially affected the Trans Asian Highway along Sadar Hills today.
Even though, Thadou Inpi (GHQ) had endorsed the 48 hr UNC bandh, there was traffic movement as usual from Kangpokpi to Imphal as all passenger vehicles, including buses and taxis plied along the highway the entire day with no report of any untoward incident.
Business establishments in all locations between Kangpokpi and Imphal remained open for the day while Government employees attended to their respective activities as usual.
However, minimal vehicular movement was witnessed along the Trans Asian Highway between Kangpokpi and Senapati while inter-State passenger services were suspended.
Interestingly, no civil society Organizations within Sadar Hills have expressed endorsement and support to the UNC's 48 hr bandh in tribal areas so far.
