Surge continues with 15 deaths, 656 fresh cases

Even as the Government reported 656 fresh Covid infections, Manipur recorded 15 Covid deaths including 11 from Imphal West district in the last 24 hours.
Of the 15 three were people below the age of 40 while one was a 40 year old woman.
While the district recorded 11 deaths, Imphal West also reported 288 fresh cases, the highest from a district in the last 24 hours.
With the 15 deaths, the death toll has reached 661 .
The total number of Covid positive cases has reached 42,565 while the number of active cases is 6,298 .
The recovery rate stands at 83.65 percent.
Yesterday, the Government COVID-19 Control Room had reported 644 fresh cases and 11 deaths.
A report issued by the Government COVID-19 Common Control Room today said, the 15 deaths include 10 men and 5 women.
Imphal West reported 11 deaths while Imphal East and Kangpokpi district reported 2 deaths each.
The eleven victims from Imphal West include three women aged 38, 68 and 76 years and eight men aged 35, 39, 40, 56, 57, 64, 75 and 76 years.
The victims from Imphal East were a man aged 58 years and a woman aged 40 years.
The victims from Kangpokpi were a 58-year-old man and one 57-year-old woman.
The 15 persons succumbed to Covid at JNIMS (6), RIMS (5), Raj Medicity (2) and Covid Care Centre Kangpokpi (2) .
Meanwhile, the 656 fresh infections detected in the last 24 hours include 2 personnel of the Central Armed Police Force and 654 from the general population.
While 360 of them tested positive for Covid at private testing centres, the remaining tested positive at District Hospitals (183), JNIMS (84) and RIMS (29) .
The 654 persons from the general population, who have tested positive are from Imphal West (288), Imphal East (157), Churachandpur (71), Kakching (45), Bishnupur (39), Thoubal (12), Ukhrul (11), Kangpokpi (11), Chandel (8), Senapati (8), Tamenglong (3) and Tengnoupal (1) .
Amid the rising number of infections, as many as 676 persons have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, said the Covid Control Room.
While 515 of them recovered while under home isolation, the remaining have been discharged from Covid care facilities opened at SHRI (26), NSU (19), BB (16), Bishnupur (14), CAPF (12), RIMS (11), CCC Lamboikhongnangkhong (11), Kakching (11), JNIMS (10), Babina Speciality Hospital (7), Thoubal (6), Ukhrul (6), RD Wing (5), Jivan Hospital (2), Rajmed (1), Chandel (1), Senapati (1), Kangpokpi (1) and Jiribam (1) .
However, the recovery report of 571 individuals were received only today due to 'various reasons' and as such the number of recovered cases is considered as 1247 after reconciliation with reports from the IDSP team, Home isolation team and hospitalization team as on May 20, said the Control Room.
The cumulative number of positive cases is 42,565 (general population-38,846 and Central Security Personnel-3,719) .
The cumulative number of recovered cases is 35,606 (general population - 32,029 and Central security personnel-3,577) .
The number of active cases is 6,298 (general population-6,161 and Central security personnel-137) .
Further, 3,35,396 people have been vaccinated against Covid till today, said the report.
Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours, a total of 1456 D-type oxygen cylinders and 355 B-type oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health institutions and health facilities of the State, said the Government report.
It added that a first consignment of 250 D-type cylinders out of 2,000 ordered by the Government from a manufacturer in Gujarat have reached Silchar.
The 250 cylinders are procured through the CSR contribution of the NHIDCL.
Today, 182 D-type oxygen at Airforce base Silchar have been received by the Government.
Out of these, 105 are donated by SELCO Foundation while the remaining were procured by Deputy Commissioners of Kamjong, Churachandpur and Tamenglong, said the report.
