CM, Dy CM to leave for Delhi soon

In the wake of increasing violence, crimes and racial attack against people of northeastern States in different parts of the country, Chief Minister O Ibobi along with Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam will be visiting Delhi soon to urge Central leaders for taking up prompt measures to ensure that such unfortunate incidents do not occur in future.
Addressing a press meet at Imphal Secretariat here today, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam strongly condemned the recent cases of violence against northeastern people that took place in Bangalore, Gurgaon and Munirka in South Delhi during the past few days.
Gaikhangam who is also the holding the charge of Home affairs said it was not the first time that such racial attacks including murder of northeast people have occurred.

CM appealed to the governments and law enforcing agencies of the States where the mentioned incidents took place to award befitting punishment to those culprits involved in the incidents and to ensure that people hailing from northeastern States are not victimized in the States in future.
Maintaining that the Home Department is seeking reports on the aforementioned incidents from the concerned authorities of the States to assess veracity of the incidents, Gaikhangam asserted that governments of other northeastern States are also exerting pressure on the Central Government to initiate effective steps to curb racial attack and crimes against northeastern people staying in different parts of the country.
Targeting northeastern people who are studying and working in different parts of the country is highly condemnable.
The whole nation should stand unite together against such incidents, the Dy CM added.
Meanwhile, Union minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju has announced that an exclusive helpline will be set up for the northeast people living in Gurgaon.
Assuring that no stone will be left unturned to stop racist attacks against people from northeast, Kiren Rijiju on Saturday said the Centre will soon implement recommendations of Bezbaruah committee formed to look into the issue.
The minister was here to review the law and order situation following an attack on three youths from Nagaland by locals on Wednesday night.
Rijiju had an hour-long meeting with Gurgaon commissioner of police Alok Mittal, divisional commissioner D P S Nagal and other senior officials of Gurgaon over the incident.
He said he has already met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Rajnath Singh on the issue and the "government of India is 100 per cent committed to not allow repeated of such incidents" .
"No stone will be left unturned to control such type of hate and racist attacks against northeast people," he said.
The minister said he has approved setting up of an exclusive helpline for the people of northeast living in Gurgaon.
"If the helpline will prove to be beneficial in checking such incidents, it will be replicated across metro cities where people from Northeast region live in the country," he said.
The M P Bezbaruah committee was formed in February, 2014 to look into various concerns of persons hailing from the Northeastern states who are living in different parts of the country, especially the metropolitan areas, and to suggest suitable remedial measures which could be taken by the government.
The committee submitted its report to Kiren Rijiju on July 11 .
In the meantime, the North East Students' Organisation (NESO), comprising the Khasi Students' Union (KSU), All Assam Students' Union (AASU), Naga Students' Federation (NSF), Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), Twipra Students' Federation (TSF), All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU), Garo Students' Union (GSU) and All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) representing eight major students' movements of the seven states of the North East Region submitted a memorandum to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju, today regarding the recent racial attacks on NE people.
The memorandum urged the Centre to set up Special Police Cell in all the Metros to cater to cases related to racial discrimination and atrocities on people from North East.
Seeking Capital punishment to the perpetrators of the heinous crimes, the students memorandum reiterated inclusion of North East geography, people, culture and ethos in the syllabus of schools all over India.
It demanded enactment of a stringent law to deal with such crimes against the people from North East.
