Imphal, October 15 2019:
Saying that negotiation is underway on the controversy surrounding the erection of memorial stones in connection with the Anglo-Kuki War centenary commemoration, Chief Secretary Dr J Suresh Babu has appealed to all not to spread false propaganda regarding the matter on social media.
Speaking to media persons at the conference hall of Old Secretariat this afternoon, the Chief Secretary said that the Government is keen to avoid any possible disturbance to law and order.
The Chief Minister is also invited to the centenary celebration scheduled on October 17 but the Government had no idea about the words which would be inscribed on memorial stones.
As soon as the Government came to know about the words inscribed on the memorial stones, a meeting was held with the Kuki Inpi and KSO together with the DGP on October 11, said the Chief Secretary.

During the meeting, the State Government made it clear that it did not have any objection to the centenary celebration but the words 'ancestral land' inscribed on memorial stones must be removed as some communities are very sensitive to the particular words, Dr Suresh said.
As strong objections were raised from different quarters to the stone inscription, the Government directed the DCs and SPs concerned to take up necessary action.
Yesterday too, the Chief Minister and some Cabinet Ministers talked with representatives of the Kuki Inpi Manipur, he said.
The Chief Minister told the KIM representatives to refrain from actions which may create misunderstanding among different communities.
The KIM representatives said that they would first consult the matter among themselves and come back for another meeting with the Government.
In the meantime, the Chief Minister and some Cabinet Ministers held a meeting with representatives of Tangkhul Naga Long, Naga People's Organisation, Chandel Naga People's Organisation and UNC this morning and they were told not to take the law into their hands, Dr Suresh Babu conveyed.
All the measures taken up by the State Government regarding the issue of memorial stones have been apprised to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The matter has also been informed to AB Mathur, the Centre's Interlocutor for the political dialogue with Kuki militant groups.
Subsequently, AB Mathur has talked with both KNO and the Kuki Inpi Manipur, said the Chief Secretary.
The State Government, the Interlocutor and the Home Ministry have suggested removal of the words 'ancestral land' inscribed on memorial stones, Dr Suresh Babu said.
Saying that the Government has been talking with all stake holders to bring a solution, he conveyed that the Chief Minister would hold another meeting with KIM representatives at 9 am tomorrow.
On the other hand, Chief Minister N Biren presided a meeting of combined headquarters this morning and reviewed the State's law and order situation together with top officers of police, army, AR, CRPF and other security agencies, Suresh Babu said.
He exuded confidence that a solution can be worked out to the issue adding that State Government has been working to avoid any situation which may create misunderstanding among different communities.
