Imphal, January 14 2015:
Unauthorised use of subsidised LPG in the State has gone down thanks to the IOC's initiative to implement Govt of India's new scheme which aims to improve the subsidy administration of LPG to all customers across the country.
A reliable source from the Divisional Retail Sales Office, IOC, Imphal said that subsidised LPG cylinders were used rampantly in many commercial outlets and business establishments of the State.
The subsidised LPG refills were used in commercial outlets as they were handed out to them by the distributors.
This resulted in the diversion of subsidised LPG for commercial purposes, the source said.
In order to curb the diversion of subsidised LPG from consumers throughout the country, the Ministry of Petroleum, Ministry of Consumers and Ministry of Finance, Govt of India initiated the Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG (DBTL) scheme.

The DBTL was set into motion in the State from January 1 this year.
Like in other States, unauthorised use of subsidised LPG has decreased in the State since the implementation of the DBTL scheme.
On the other hand, the sale of non-subsidised commercial LPG cylinder in the State increased drastically since the past two/three months.
The source further said that sixteen LPG distributors of the State under IOC were able to distribute 600 non-subsidised commercial LPG cylinders in Dec 2014 against the sale of just 96 such cylinders in Dec 2013 .
These distributors had also distributed 216 non-subsidised LPG commercial cylinders in November 2013 while they distributed 600 non-subsidised LPG commercial cylinders in November 2014 .
Cancellation of multiple LPG connections in line with DBTL scheme, cutting down the price of non-subsidised commercial LPG cylinder from Rs 1900 to Rs 1640, ensuring easy availability of LPG like other commodities and the drive conducted by officials of IOC's Imphal Divisional Retail Sales office against unauthorised use of subsidised LPG cylinders within Imphal city are some of the key reasons for the increase in sale of non-subsidised commercial LPG cylinders, the source said.
It may be recalled that the IOC officials had also conducted a drive against the use of subsidised LPG at food stalls during the recently held Manipur Sangai Festival.
