Over 1000 buildings damaged in Senapati

Imphal, January 08 2016 :
With 1117 buildings damaged, it has turned out that Senapati district bore the maximum brunt of the devastating earthquake which rocked the State on January 4.Within Senapati district, Saitu and Kangchup-Geljang sub-divisions were the worst affected.
Most of the damaged hou-ses belong to Nepali families.
Generally their houses were built of mud and stone and they crumbled at the impact of the earthquake.
Altogether 33 persons sustained injuries in Senapati district, informed an official source.

The number of affected villages were 26 in Saitu sub-division, 31 in Kangchup- Geljang, 18 in Kangpokpi, 14 in Saikul, one in Island and two villages in Bungte Chiru.
Whereas 348 buildings were totally destroyed, 114 Government buildings too suffered damages in Senapati district.
District-wise figures of damaged buildings is Imphal West 90, Imphal East 22, Thoubal 17, Bishnupur 159, Tamenglong 347, Ukhrul 1 and Churachandpur 11 .
The earthquake killed eight people apart from injuring 120 people.
To make a direct assessment of the losses and destruction caused by the earthquake, a team of the National Disaster Management Authority would arrive here tomorrow.
