Imphal, May 08:
Reacting positively to the feelers sent by the Government, MEELAL has today decided to suspend its stir till May 11, when a meeting is scheduled with the Government to discuss and to try and work out a solution to the burning issue at hand.
In a statement, MEELAL said that its activists were ready to go ahead with the agitation to target essential services from today but taking note of the changing stance of the Government, decided to wait till May 11 to see how things work out.
Detailing, MEELAL said that a meeting was held today at 10 am to discuss the overtures of the Government.
The feelers sent by the Government to MEELAL to resolve the issue was discussed threadbare during the meeting, said the statement.
The members took note of the meeting held between MEELAL leader Ch Akaba and MLA N Biren yesterday at Sajiwa Jail.
The MLA was deputed by the Government to meet the MEELAL leader and discuss the issue, added the statement.
Moreover the Chief Minister himself had invited MEELAL representatives to a meeting on May 11 at 4 pm to discuss the issue, it said.
The meeting also discussed the earlier instances of false promises and assurances given by the Government to quell any movement, said the statement.
However as the Government's feelers unequivocally stated that the understanding reached with MEELAL would be adopted on May 11, the meeting decided to relax all its agitation till then.
Keeping in line with the decision taken today, MEELAL has urged all its members to suspend the agitation till the time frame set.
The organisation cautioned that if the Cabinet fails to adopt and implement any agreement reached on May 11, then a fresh agitation with renewed vigour will start, and urged all to be ready for any such eventualities.
