Imphal, April 12 2012:
Minister of State for Defence MM Pallam Raju who could not make a field assessment of the condition of Imphal-Jiribam highway because of inclement weather would come back and inspect the highway by travelling on road in mid May.
An official source informed that the Union Minister was to visit Jiribam by helicopter and then travel to Nungkao by road yesterday but the plan was aborted due to inclement weather.
Nevertheless, Pallam Raju assured the Chief Minister that he would come to Manipur on May 12 and in November to make a field assessment of NH-37 which is being repaired/developed by BRO.
It is reported that the Kambiron portion of Imphal-Jiribam highway which was once languishing in the most pathetic state with potholes as deep as one's waist has improved considerably.
Yet, Kaimai-Barak section has not improved to the desired level.

In the aftermath of cutting hill slopes for expansion of the highway to double-lane till Barak, and coupled with the rainfall, the entire section is now covered with mud and slush.
On account of the sorry state of the highway, transporters have been facing a hard time between Kaimai and Barak.
However, overall the condition of the highway has improved to some extent.
Many sections which were not black-topped earlier, have been black-topped while many other sections have been readied for black-topping.
Meanwhile, it is reported that the high power committee constituted at the directive of the High Court would inspect the highway on April 14 .
