Imphal, April 12 2012:
A public meeting was held today at MDU against the brutal gang rape of a housewife under the aegis of the JAC formed against the gang rape of the woman.
The meeting adopted four resolutions which included re-endorsing the JAC's demand for capital punishment to all those involved in the gang rape.
It also resolved to launch mass movements in both the valley and the hills until the demands of the JAC are fulfilled.
The public meeting also condemned in the strongest terms all the bestial crimes of gang rape including the brutal rape and abandonment of Keisham Premlata of Wabagai Thingel Leikai and the rape of a 16 year old girl from Thoubal Athokpam by two men.
Another resolution of the meeting was to organise a mass rally cum public meeting against crimes committed on women.
The other resolution was in the form of a demand to the Government to arrange rehabilitation for the traumatized housewife.
Speaking at the meeting, the JAC convenor Kakomlunglu Kamei said that protest demonstrations have been staged at different parts of the State demanding capital punishment for all the five individuals involved in the gang rape of the housewife.
The ongoing agitation would be carried on until justice is delivered, she said.
AMKIL president Ph Sakhi Leima demanded that all the five individuals involved in the gang rape of the housewife should be hung to death.
Taking strong exception against the Chief Minister's and the Home Minister's light statements that the matter was in Court, not in their hands, Sakhi called upon all to stand united and firm against such bestial crimes.
Kangla Mei president Y Leirikleima decried that the cases of rape and murder of women have been rising at an alarming rate in Manipur.
Nupi Samaj president K Taruni stated that it's time to demonstrate to all the perverts that the Manipuri society would not tolerate any form of crime committed against women otherwise it would be hard to safeguard the future generation.
The situation has degenerated to such a depraved state because no befitting punishments were awarded to all those culprits who outraged or murdered women in the past.
Among others, the meeting was also attended by CHITUWA president M Purnimashi, WACAK president S Ibetombi Leima and president of the Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur L Memchoubi Leima.
