State Level Debjani Memorial debating competition held

A State Level Debating Competition on the topic 'Privatisation of Education has brought down the quality of education in India' was organised under the joint aegis of Debjani Leima Foundation and Manipur Debating Society at Manipur Press Club here today.
The debating competition was organised as part of the 1st Debjani Leima Memorial Award presentation and 27th death anniversary of Debajani Leima cum prize distribution and was graced by Dr T Meinya as Chief Guest, Chingsubam Thoiba, President of Maniour Debating Society as Functional President and Associate Prof of Maharaja Bodhachandra College and Thokchom Surbala, MJS, Retired Session Judge, Manipur East as Guest of Honour.
MLA of Keishamthong A/C who was supposed to be the Chief Guest failed to attend the function.
The prizes of the competition would be distributed at the occasion of observing the 27th death anniversary of Debjani Leima at Manipur Press Club tomorrow.
Speaking on the occasion, Chingsubam Thoiba said that if the leaders of our society do not understand the value of time, we would not be able to take part in the race for development.
He also appealed to all concerned to understand the value of time and be punctual in all occasions.
By turning up late in any function, we would not only wasting our own precious time, but also of others, who take it seriously.
Thoiba further stated that all the debating competitions held under the auspices of Manipur Debating Society are started exactly on time even if the Speaker of the competition failed to turn up.
Thokchom Surbala recalled that late Debjani Leima was a person who was very dedicated to her duty.
She also played a great role in developing the education system of the state with sacrificing spirit.
She was born to Dr L Kulladhaja and L Thambal Angoubi and was married to Maisnam Gopal of Wahengbam Leikai.
She served as a Librarian in Maharaja Bodhachandra College till her retirement from service.
Delivering the key note address, Maisnam Shivadutta Luwang, Editor of Hueiyen Lanpao (Meetei Mayek) and Founder of Debjani Leima Foundation, said that the Debjani Memorial Award would be given in different fields/individuals related to education.
For this year, the award would be given away to toppers of Debating Competition being organised today.
The award would also be given to outstanding media persons and students and the Foundation is planning to organise workshops, symposiums and seminars in the near future, he added.
