Imphal, April 10 2011:
"We don't see any improvement work being taken up on the stretch of Tamenglong-Tamei section of the IT road during 2010," lamented the Zeliangrong Baudi, Tamei Zone (AMN), expressing gratitude to the initiative of the Tamenglong Public Forum (TPF) by taking up the case of the IT road and Keiphundai-Tousem road to the Gauhati High Court.
Asserting that TPF has moved to the court for bringing out justice into the matter, a statement of the convener of the ZB Tamei Zone, Kairithon Thiumei, pointed out that PWD has been making these roads as "den of corruption" for many decades together.
That was why the conditions of the roads remain the worst in the state.
The culprits in the scandal should be identified and penalized as per law and public money to the tune of crores of rupees taken out in the name of improvement of the road should be retrieved from those "looters", the statement asserted.
The body will extend all kinds of co-operation to TPF and all authority concerned if joint inquiry is conducted as per directive of the Gauhati High Court.
Pointing out that North Eastern Council (NEC) had approved Rs 66,86 crore under its letter no.NEC (T&C)/approval/2009-10/16 on March 25, 2010 for the improvement of the Tamenglong-Tamei road, the statement asked the PWD and state government where the fund had gone, who are the agencies and what is the progress of the work.
They have not seen any improvement work being taken up on the stretch of the road, the body further warned that if the work is not implemented with immediate effect, they will write to NEC that the money had been siphoned off by corrupted PWD officials in collusion with looter work agencies.
