30th Manipuri Language Day celebrated

Commemorating the day when Manipuri language was included in the 8th Schedule of Indian Constitution, the directorate of language planning & implementation observed 30th Manipuri Language Day on Friday at the conference hall of State Council of Education Research and Training, Lamphelpat.
Addressing gathering, directorate of language planning & implementation director Th Chitra said "we are proud for having our own language and script and it is our bounden responsibility to preserve and promote our language".
Knowing different languages is good but the most important one is mother language, Chitra said adding that a person knowing different languages but unable to speak mother language properly would be akin to handicap person.
Parents should not feel proud when their children speak foreign languages, Chitra said stressed the need for imparting mother language properly to youth of the state.
She said role of parents in imparting mother language to children is enormous and parents should feel more proud when their children speak mother language properly and not by speaking foreign language fluently.
Commissioner (education) M Harekrishna also attended the event and said that every Manipuri should be proud for inclusion of Manipuri language in the 8th Schedule of Indian Constitution but should not stop efforts to develop and promote the language.
He also said that increasing number of speaker is important for developing and promoting Manipuri language.
The event was also attended by MEELAL president Yanglem Biren and assistant professor Dr N Sanatomba of Manipuri department, Manipur University.
