Nepali Language Day celebrated virtually

Nepali Sahitya Parishad (NSP) Manipur celebrated the 30th Nepali Language Day virtually through Google Meet on Friday.
Nepali along with Manipuri and Konkani languages were included in the 8th Sched ule of Indian constitution on August 20, 1992 and since then Nepali Sahitya Parishad Manipur have been observing Nepali Language day every year, said a release issued by NSP secretary Deepak Pantha.
The event began with Diya lighting by former president Durga Sharma followed by Deepak Pantha highlighting the aim and vision of the Parishad.
The Nepali Language day was attended Sahitya Akademi awardee Man Prasad Subba as chief guest, former NSP president Prof Durga Sharma and Sahitya Akademi awardee from Guwahati Anjan Baskota as guests of honour while NSP president Bhawani Adhikari presided over the function.
Man Prasad presented a brief account on how Indian Gorkhas struggled for inclusion of Nepali language in the 8th Schedule while spokesperson of the event Dr Tankanath Khatiwada, who is also the advisor of NSP and professor at Presidency College Motbung, highlighted the value, importance and scope of Nepali language.
The release also informed that Kumar Khatiwada (Parsain Basti), Roshan Diyali (Kanglatongbi), Sunil Limbu (Irang Part -II), Sabina Dahal (Kanglatongbi), Basanti Devi Poudel (Charhajare) recited their self-composed poems at the programme, which was attended by around 60 members including representatives of All Manipur Gorkha Students' Union, Nepali Sanskriti Surakshya Parishad Manipur, Gorkha Jyoti Prakashan Manipur, Bharatiya Gorkha Parishangh Manipur, Manipur Gorkha Welfare Union, NSP present and former executive members as well as advisors.
