Imphal, July 10 2020: Asserting that the COVID-19 pandemic has seriously impacted on the lives of the people and created anxiety and uncertainty at Jiribam and Thangmeiband, MLA Kh Joykisan today questioned who is in charge of the Health Department.

Taking a strong stand, the Congress MLA questioned where the Health and Family Minister is at this critical juncture and reminded that the virus has widely spread at Jiribam infecting a large number of police and VDF personnel.

This is the time when all efforts should be taken up on a war footing to meet the onslaught of the virus, said the MLA and questioned where the Health Minister has disappeared to at this critical juncture.

Speaking to reporters at his residence at Thangmei band today, the Congress MLA said the habit of taking credit for the work done by health workers and disowning them when doctors and nurses get infected is a classic example of the Minister concerned not shouldering his duty.

Why is the Health Minister still refusing to attend office when the State is at such a critical juncture, he questioned.

The people should be told why the Health Minister is still absent from office, added the MLA.

Kh Joykisan that people must have forgotten the strong word of the Health Minister that there is no question of patching up, no return to the coalition etc and added that the Health Minister too should forget what he had said earlier and start attending office.

Taking jibes at Jayantakumar, the MLA said that as he (Jayantakumar) is also in charge of Art and Culture, his 'no patching up, no return to the coalition' may be taken as a dialogue from a shumang lila and he should forget about it and resume his duty.

This is not the time to stay aloof and let personal ego and interest take centre stage, reminded the MLA and asked the Health Minister to start attending office.

This is the time for the Health Minister to attend office, communicate with his officials and draw up strategies to stop the virus from further spread, said Joykisan and added that only expecting doctors, nurses and police to be on duty 24 hours a day while the Minister himself does not attend office would be tragic for the land and the people.
