THE PRESIDENT has announced gallantry awards and other decorations for the Armed Forces personnel.
In a rare feat, an officer from Manipur has been conferred with VSM for the second time.
Brig LN Singh, VSM, who is now attending the prestigious National Defence College Course, was conferred with first VSM during 2002 and this is the second time that he has yet again been conferred with the award.
The Officer is also a recipient of the Army Cdr�s Commendation Card.
Four Ashok Chakras (AC), eight Kirti Chakra, 22 Shaurya Chakra (SC), 02 Uttam Yudh Seva Medal (UYSM), five Yudh Seva Medal (YSM), 19 PVSM, 31 AVSM and 90 Sena Medals (SM) for gallantry are some of the Awards.
All the four ACs have been awarded posthumously.
Amongst the recipient are Maj Sandeep Unnikrishnan, Hav Gajendra Singh and Hav Bahadur Singh while fighting the terrorists in Mumbai November 26 last year, who made the supreme sacrifice.
Amongst the recipients in Eastern Command and the armed Forces personnel deployed in Manipur are Lt Gen VK Singh, AVSM, YSM, GOC-in-C Eastern Comd, Army Cdr Eastern Command who has been bestowed with PVSM, Maj Gen Shakti Gurung, GOC 57 Mtn Div has been conferred with VSM, whilst Lt Gen RK Loomba, GOC 3 Corps and Maj Gen AK Choudhary, SM, VSM, IGAR (South) are the recipients of AVSM.
