Manipuri Library and Research Centre opened at Bhanubil in Bangladesh

To promote Manipuri language, script and Manipuri culture in Bangladesh, a Manipuri Library and Research Centre was opened yesterday at around 2.30 pm at Bhanubil in Bhanughash, Bangladesh where maximum Meeteis are resided.
The new library was instituted with young writer Ayekpam Anju as founder and chief executive officer.
The inaugural function was attended by president Patriotic Writers Forum Manipur (PWFM) Yaiskul Khwairakpam as chief guest, Advisor of the library Yumnam Piba as functional president while Secy PWFW Rakesh Naorem, president Integrated Manipuri Association (IMA) Khoirom Indrajit and cultural activist Hamom Tonubabu attended the function as guests of honour.
On the occasion, president Manipuri Library Association Kangjam Chaoba spoke on "Benefits of Public Library on Society" .
As part of the function, a poetry book titled "Punshi Ichellaktei" penned by Yaiskul Khwairakpam and a book on drama namely "Nangsu Nupini" written by Jilla Leishangthem were also formally released.
In her keynote speech, Ayekpam Anju said the new library will house collection of important Manipuri books on literature, art & culture, history etc, and other cluster of renowned books of foreign publication including creative items for the children.
She also appealed all to donate any special items to the centre specially from brother and sister of Manipur and Bangkadeshi Manipuri.
"It is hard to find any book related to Manipuri culture and tradition or important documents by th Bangladeshi Manipuri in Bangladesh.
As such, the opening of new library will serve the purpose to some extent", she maintained.
Chief guest Yaiskul Khwairakpam said that our future generation will learn about their forefathers through books and it is very important to preserve books which carry historical importance.
He urged all to donate books to the library so that they can be preserved and stored for future generation and the present generation as well.
Cultural activist Hamom Tonubabu said that the new library is a gift for the Bangladeshi Meetei.
