Speaking to media persons at AMSU HQ at DM College campus today, AMSU president Peter Laishram said that the people of the North East region, specially Manipur, are strongly against the announcement of Union Home minister Amit Shah during the 4th NEDA Conclave at Guwahati on September 8 this year that CAB will be passed in Parliament.
Announcing that the six student bodies will offer unconditional support to any steps taken up by MANPAC, Peter said that tomorrow, at 11 am, students from all schools, colleges and universities in the State will form human chains in front of their respective institutions and raise slogans like 'No to CAB in North East', 'No to CAB in Manipur', 'Save the indigenous people of Manipur', 'Long live Manipur' etc.
Peter Laishram continued that the people of the North East, particularly Manipur, will stand firm against any Bill or Act which will harm the interest of the people.
Continued attempts by the Centre to pass or implement CAB will only lead to protest and agitation from the people and the six associations, he cautioned, adding that they are all prepared to even sacrifice their lives to oppose CAB and protect the future of the indigenous people.
On the other hand, DESAM vice president Nameirakpam Edison said that the Centre should realise that the people of the entire North East strongly condemn the statement made by the Union Minister at Guwahati on CAB.
The six student bodies will fully support any initiative taken up by North East Forum for Indigenous Peoples (NEFIP) and MANPAC, he added.
Reminding that the people of the entire NE region rose in protest against the past attempt to pass CAB, Edison said that the people will oppose any renewed attempt to bring tension and uncertainty in the region.
