Imphal, October 02 2019:
Warning that no change should be made to the various sections of the IPC which were included in the case concerning the mysterious death of Ningthoujam Babysana, the JAC formed in connection with the death of the student, has demanded section 375 of IPC (Rape) be included in the case and to replace the IO of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) which was constituted to investigate the same.
A statement issued by the convenor of the JAC today mentioned that the JAC and the people have been crying foul play in Babysana's death but the police have been denying this.
However, an organisation made a revelation through news media that signs or evidences have been found suggesting involvement of sexual assault in the case which has brought a new angle to the case, it claimed and lamented that even though the JAC has been demanding punishment for the people involved in the death of the student, the case is being taken out in the direction of running the school boarding in an illegal manner.
If this goes on, there is no hope for getting justice for Babysana, it added.
Stating that the JAC and the people have no trust anymore in the Government and the police, it mentioned that this is the reason why the demand for handing over the case to the CBI was raised.
But till date, except for assurance from the State Government that it has sent a letter to the CBI to take up the case, there has been no sincere attempt on its (Government) part to actually let the CBI handle the case, it alleged.
Claiming that this is an attempt to protect the real culprits, the JAC alleged that the IO of the SIT is also trying to get the arrested individuals out on bail by submitting false statements.
Warning that the JAC, along with the people, will launch stringent agitation if the arrested people are indeed released on bail, it demanded section 375 (Rape) be included in the case and to replace the IO of the SIT with an honest and sincere one.
