Gold worth Rs 2.95 crore seized

Assam Rifles troops apprehended a gold smuggler and recovered 47 Gold biscuits during a search at Khudengthabi Check-Post in Tengnoupal district on October 1.In a statement, PRO of Assam Rifles said that the gold was seized when the AR troops, acting on inputs stopped and searched a silver coloured van at the Khudengthabi check post.
The van was being driven by one Jamthoung Touthang, resident of Moreh.
After a thorough search of the vehicle, 47 gold biscuits weighing 7.771 Kgs, worth approximately Rs 2.95 crore were recovered from his possession.
These biscuits were hidden well concealed in the ceiling of the vehicle, said the PRO.
The apprehendee alongwith the recovered gold biscuits have been handed over to Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Imphal for further investigation.
