DESAM, MSF win Players' Day football openers

Imphal, February 21 2025: Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) organised the 7th Manipur Players' Day Invitational Football Championship-2025 at Manipur University Football Ground on Friday to commemorate Manipur Players' Day (Manipurgi Sannaroisinggi Numit) .

In the opening match, DESAM secured a 2-1 victory over SUK while MSF defeated Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) by the same margin in the second match.

As per a release, the competition is being organised to celebrate Manipur emerging as the overall champions of the 5th National Games hosted by the state in 1999 with a competition tally of 49 gold, 24 silver and 39 bronze medals.

In honour of achievement of the Manipur sportspersons the then chief minister Wahengbam Nipamacha declared celebration of Manipur Players' Day.

Six student organisations namely MSF, DESAM, KSA, SUK, AIMS and another students' body have been commemorating the triumph and hosting the tournament on rotational basis.

This year, the semi-final and final matches are scheduled for February 25.Friendly matches featuring Mami Thawan and 'Maheiroi Lup 6', and 'Maheiroi Lup 6' and 2024-25 session Manipur University Students' Union will be played on February 25 .

Appealing to the public to extend support and assistance to make the event a success, MSF also urged the public, especially the youth, to attend the event and acknowledge the contributions of the players.
