Imphal, October 26 2026: Youth Welfare Club (YWC), Thambalkhong staged a spirited comeback to edge Sports Odisha 3-2, securing their second consecutive Group B victory in the Indian Women's League-2 (IWL-2) at the Capital Football Arena, this morning.

Coming off an emphatic 5-0 win in their opener, the Manipuri outfit dominated the early exchanges.

They orchestrated a flurry of attacks, spearheaded by Sorokhaibam Silky.

However, completely against the run of play, Sports Odisha broke the deadlock in the 25th minute.

Satyabati Khadia floated a precise cross into the box, allowing Manisha Naik to glance home a well-timed header.

YWC threw everything forward in search of an equalizer before the interval, but Sports Odisha goalkeeper Sasmita Parida produced a string of brilliant saves to keep her clean sheet intact, sending her side into the break with a 1-0 cushion.

The pressure from YWC finally paid off in the second half through a moment of individual brilliance.

Phanjoubam Abemba unleashed an unexpected, stunning long-range strike from well outside the box that left Sasmita rooted to the spot, bringing the sides level.

Sports Odisha responded valiantly and reclaimed the lead in the 72nd minute when Satyabati Khadia cut inside from the left flank and curled a magnificent effort into the back of the net.

Yet, their joy was short-lived.

Just two minutes later, super-sub Rosy Thanga-who had replaced Abemba in the 64th minute-rose highest to head home a pinpoint right-flank cross from Senjam Alva, making it 2-2 .

With momentum firmly on their side, YWC struck the decisive blow in the 83rd minute.

Herina Basumatary capitalised on the pressure, bursting into the box and cleverly shifting past Sports Odisha defender Shibani Mundari before drilling a low, powerful shot past the goalkeeper.

YWC successfully managed the remaining minutes to lock down the 3-2 victory and maintain their perfect start to the tournament.

YWC face DKR Football Academy in the next match on October 28.The match starts at 4 pm .
