Imphal, August 08 2025: The Apunba Manipur Huyen Lanlong Lup (AMHLL) has stated that August 7 was observed as Huyen Lanlong Numit/Day across various schools and Thang-Ta institutes in and outside the State.

AMHLL in a press release said that the the core idea of the observance of the day include commemoration and paying tributes to late Thang-Ta activists, instructors and teachers; promotion of solidarity and sense of Nationalism; preservation and promotion of Thang-Ta skills and knowledge and carry forward the strong legacy of discipline, morality and self defence.

AMHLL came into being with over 70 top Sintakpurel and Thouburel (head coaches and executives) of different Thang-Ta organisation, institutions and institutes coming together under one banner during a function held on August 7 in 2016 at Khuman Lampak Fencing Hall, it said.

The gathering firmly resolved to preserve and promote the indigenous martial art form before unanimously resolving to observe Huyen Lanlong Day on August 7 to commemorate the historic meet and the formation of the new organisation.

The observance was not only confined to Manipur but was also held in Tripura by Cheibi Association of Tripura, in Bangladesh and by Kathe Meitei Library and Cultural Association in Mandalay, it said.

Meanwhile the same event was held at the Pitambara English School, Kwakeithel Heinoukhongnembi; the Comprehensive School, Oinam; Downtown Mini Paradise School, Haotal; Lamjing Meira Maheikol, Saiton; LCM School, Moirang; Blue Mount English School, Patsoi; Victory High School, Kakching; Kumbi High School, Kumbi; the Elang Keinya High School, Elangkhangpokpi; EK Higher Secondary School, Sangakpham etc, it added.

The 9th observance of the day by the association was held at Lainingthou Khunbuleima Haraopung, Changangei, it added.
