36th State Junior Thang-Ta Championship begins at Heirok

Imphal, September 28 2025: The 36th edition of the State Junior Thang-TaChampionship 2025 began today at Ikop Ningthou Lai Haraobung, Heirok Part-II, Thoubal.

The championship is being organised by the Meitei Nongsha Thang-Ta, Heirok under the auspices of the Huyel Langlon Thang-Ta Association, Manipur.

66 boys and 52 girls from different Thang-Ta institutes and association from across 5 districts are vying for top honours in Phunaba and Khonglon Chatpa competitions.

Opening Day highlights Ngaliya Chanu of PTTS, Sagolband clinched the junior girls' -40 kg category Phunaba Ama gold medal as N Lucky Chanu of MNTT, Heirok; W Bidya of BDHLTTA, Kakyai; and S Angoubi of MMMA, Moirangkampu secured the top three finishes in the -44 kg category competition.

N Lingjenthoi of ICAS, Konung Mamang; Th Bhumika of MMAA; M Thadoisana of PAHULASI, Mayaikoibi meanwhile sealed the top three finishes in the girls' -48 kg category competition.

I Anamika of TTCA, Moirang meanwhile bagged the -52 kg category gold medal as Athokpam Milky of MNTT and Kh Debeshowri of LTA, Khurai Sajor Leikai settled for the silver and the bronze medals.

L Nibashini of LTA, Y Debajani of TTM, Yumnam Huidrom and Th Susmita of MMAA in the meantime made podium finishes in the -56 kg category competition.

Chanchan Kom of MMAA (-60 kg); W Henthoi of IKTTCA, Moidangpok (-65 kg); and Kh Zelliuna of LTA (-75 kg) also won gold medals in the respective categories.

M Kapil Sharma of IMMAA, Brahmapur Chungkham Leikai; N Roshan of UHLA, Samurou; and K Malemnganba of PISS, Langjing meanwhile bagged the gold, silver and bronze medals in the boys' -44 kg category Phunaba Anishuba competition.

M Utam of MNTT; T Ngangranaba of ICAS, Konung Mamang' and K Roshan of Kanglei Thang-Ta Lup, Langol on the other hand secured the top three positions in the boys' -48 kg category Phunaba Anishuba competition.

Lous Ningthoujam of LKTTS, Kangmong (-52 kg); S Rabinash of ANJIKA, Ghari (-56 kg); and Khwairakpam Santosh of TTCS, Moirang (-60 kg) also secured Phunaba Anishuba gold medals today.

The championship will conclude tomorrow.
