MU Inter College Badminton Tournament : Pole Star College, Manipur University crowned men and women's champions

Imphal, October 09 2024: Pole Star College, Wabagai and Manipur University were crowned men and women's champions at the Chongtham Ongbi Rajkumari Tamphasana Memorial Manipur University Inter College Badminton (M&W) Tournament 2024-25 .

The tournament was hosted by Naorem Birahari College, Khundrakpam under the auspices of Manipur University Sports Committee, Canchipur at the indoor hall of the college.

In the women's final staged today, Manipur University prevailed 2-0 over Imphal College to seal the top honour.

Manipur University went on top with Mercy Thoudam getting better of Soraisam Kanchan of Imphal College 21-12, 21-8 in the opening singles match before Mercy Thoudam and Sophiya Thokchom overwhelmed the pair of Soraisam Kanchan and M Christina 21-5, 21-8 in the following doubles competition to make it 2-0 .

Later in the day, Pole Star College pulled off a 3-1 victory against Kamakhya Pemton College, Hiyangthang to seal the men's title.

Pole Star opened the lead with K Nganba defeating KP College's Dinku 15-21, 21-10, 21-18 .

Sirzeet, however, helped KP College to bounce back by defeating Ch Ritesh 21-17, 21-16 in the second singles match to make it 1-1 .

Pole Star College made their way back into the contention with Ch Ritesh and Ch Vikson combining well to beat Dinky and Kelvin 21-6, 21-7 in the following doubles' match before Ch Vikson secured a 21-8, 21-15 win over Sandeep of KP College to round off the title match 3-1 .

Earlier in the day, Pole Star College reached the final with a 3-1 win over Mangolnganbi College, Ningthoukhong as KP College overwhelmed Manipur University 3-0 to complete the final line up.

Mangolnganbi College enjoyed an early lead in the first semi-final with RK Alen defeating K Nganba 15-21, 21-13, 22-20 but Ch Ritesh of Pole Star College won 21-8, 21-13 over H Rohenkumar of the Ningthoukhong College in the second singles match to draw level before the pair of Ch Vikson and Ch Ritesh completed the turnaround with a 18-21, 21-17, 21-16 win over the pair of RK Alen and Rohenkumar in the following doubles match.

Th Ronel then prevailed 21-11, 21-11 over L Mangal of Mangolnganbi College to help Pole Star College finish the game 3-1 .

Meanwhile in the second semi-final match, Dinku handed KP College the lead with an easy 21-5, 21-1 win over Leishemba Yengkhom of Manipur University before Sandeep made it 2-0 with a 21-15, 21-12 win over Md Nawaz Sharif in the second match.

Dinku and Sandeep then pulled off a 21-13, 21-15 win over Swami P and Eekoklen NC of Manipur University to complete the 3-0 thrashing.
