PHAM emerges champion for both Men's and Women's in State Hockey

Imphal, July 08 2012: With some quite easy domination and some tough moves, Posterior Hockey Academy Manipur (PHAM), Imphal has emerged as champion's for both Men's and Women's categories in the 3rd State Level Men's and Women's Open Hockey Tournament organised by Manipur Hockey which concluded today at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium, Imphal.

The final match for Women's category was played between PHAM and Ideal Club, Tera.

While Men's final was played between PHAM and YCLYL, Lairiyengbam Leikai.

PHAM women displayed a superior performances against their opponent in women's final match today as they emerged champions after defeating Ideal Club 7-1 .

While PHAM players easily dominated the game, Ideal Club women found it a tough game to maintain their defense while trying to sneak in some goals.

Th Anuradha of PHAM scored four goals in the 21st, 33rd, 34th and 64th minutes of the match.

A Geetarani scored one goal in the 26th minute while her teammate Th Ranjita scored two goals in the 38th and 69th minutes of the match.

On the other hand, the lone goal of Ideal Club was scored in the 42nd minute of the match by Raina.

Nirmala of Ideal Club was issued a yellow card for her unsporting behaviour during the match.

While it was an easy match for PHAM to win the final match in women's category, PHAM men found it tough to beat their rival YCLYL, Lairikyengbam Leikai as they finished draw with the scoreline at 5-5 before defeating them 4-3 in penalty shootout.

Both teams played the match with their firm determination to win and they found that it was not an easy task for both of them to win the match if they want to take home the champions trophy.

As the match began with high notes on both sides, Ch Rishikanta of YCLYL drew the first blood in the 10th minute of the match and opened their goal account.

No sooner he scored the goal, Ksh Wangamba of PHAM equalised it in the 13th minute which he converted from a penalty shoot.

PHAM then led the match by 2-1 with a nice shot from N Bikram who headed straight for the goalline in the 28th minute.

The lead was further extended to 3-1 by a goal of Kh Rabikanta in the 34th minute.

Another brace from N Bikram again extended the lead to 4-1 bringing up the moods of PHAM players as well as fans.

Frustated with the short in goals, YCLYL players began to fight back and strike back with a series of goals.

Ch Umakanta scored one goal in the 51st minute adding one more goal into their account.

It was soon followed by a goal from Ksh Dhananjoy in the 54th minute.

Again after three minutes, M Romenkumar equalised the goal in the 57th minutes.

Soon afterwards, L Sitaljit scored his team's fifth goal in the 58th minute of the match to everyone's surprise and led the match by one goal.

With the hope of winning the match fading, PHAM players tried their best to equalise the match and finally succeeded after 10 minutes as Ksh Wangamba scored his team's fifth and his second goal of the match in the 68th minute of the match.

Thereafter, no players could scored any further goal till the end of the match and the match ended in a draw.

In the penalty shoot out, Th Rohen, Kh Devakeshor, Kh Rabikanta and Ksh Wangamba of PHAM hit the target while N Bikram who took the third shot missed his shot.

On the other hand, M Romenkumar, L Sitaljit and Ksh Dhananjoy of YCLYL hit the target and their teammates, Ch Nepolean and Ch Umakanta who took the second and fifth shots respectively missed their target and lost the match to PHAM.

Ksh Wangamba of PHAM was declared Promising Player Man and A Geetarani of PHAM, Promising Player Woman.

NYC, Ahanthem Leikak and SEYO, Singjamei were adjusted Best Discipline Teams for Men and Women respectively.
