Imphal, January 16 2022:
CYCLONE, Thangmeiband and RCA, Lilong kicked off their Group stage campaigns in the 3rd MNCA U-16 Boys Naorem Rajningthou Memorial Trophy 2021-22 with comfortable wins today.
At YCWO ground in Heinoupok, CYCLONE not-ched up a 5 wicket win over SHADOW, Thangmeiband to open Group C winning account.
SHADOW opted to bat first and stacked up a paltry score of 107 runs for 7 in the allotted 30 overs.
Lanchenba's knock of 38 runs off 84 balls was the highest SHADOW registered today followed by Nishant (20) as other batters departed on single digit scores.
Rahul Singh of CYCLONE greatly hindered SHADOW from scoring as he fetched 3 crucial wickets awarding only 9 runs in 4 overs.
His companions Suraj (1/19 in 6 overs which included a maiden), Robinson (1/6 in 3 overs which included a maiden) and Thomson (1/13 in 3 overs which included a maiden) in the meantime bagged a wicket each while maintaining a good economy at the same time.
CYCLONE's, chase was not however an easy task as they lost three top order batters cheaply but Thomson's brilliant knock of 45 runs and his 6th wicket stand with Robinson (14 not out) prove crucial in leading CYCLONE to 108 for 5 in 23.5 overs for the big win.
Reolin of SHADOW claimed 3 wickets sparing 26 runs in 6 overs in this innings while Lanchenba managed 2 wickets for 7 runs in 6 overs.
Thomson who top scored for CYCLONE and picked a wicket, was named man of the match.
Elsewhere at ABA ground, Kshetrigao, RCA posted a humongous tally of 296 runs for 4 in 30 overs and skittled NCA, Ningthoukhong out for 115 runs in 24.2 overs to carve out a huge 181 run victory (Group D) .
Naees Hussain starred in this match as he was close to scoring a half century (45 off 59 balls) and fetched 5 wickets in NCA's innings.
He was eventually named man of the match.
Md Sarif also shone with a quickfire 93 off 44 balls followed by Md Refast (31), Safwan (26) and Zamir Khan (22) in RCA's innings which saw Hilbert of NCA claim two wickets and L Abinash and T Sushil share a wicket apiece.
NCA's P Putin (34) and P Hilbert (32) provided NCA initial momentum but fierce bowling by Naees (5/25 in 6 overs which contained two maidens) and Zamir Khan (2/27 in 5 overs) led to a terrible collapse.
Despite T Sushil and Luhikumar scoring identical 14 runs, NCA slumped to 115 all out in 24.2 overs handing RCA a comfortable 181 run victory.
