More than 1.5 lakh SOP violators pulled-up, half from Thoubal alone

Imphal, January 16 2022:
Thoubal district with 72,206 SOP violators has registered the most number of SOP violators amongst the district of the State till date.
The nearest contender to Thoubal is Imphal West, with 30,081 SOP violators and Bisnhupur with 25,087 has seen the third largest number of SOP violators.
Till date the department has collected a sum of Rs 2,63,25,260/- (two crore sixty three lakh twenty five thousand two hundred sixty only) from 1,58,603 SOP violators.
Despite various warnings including imposition of fine by the Police, people across the State continues to flaunt SOPs in a number of instances.
Today the Police Department detained 7 individuals for violating guidelines and restrictions issued by the State Government and the State Disaster Management Authority in connection with COVID-19 pandemic including failure to wear mask in public places.
The seven individuals, five from Thoubal and 2 in Bishnupur, were released after warning.
A sum of Rs 1500 (one thousand five hundred only) was also collected as fine from the SOP violators, as per a press communique from the Police.
The Police Department further warned that those who violate the guidelines and restrictions will be dealt with strong legal actions under National Disaster Management Act, 2005 and other appropriate laws.
