Imphal, January 16 2022:
Former Congress MLA of Mayang Imphal assembly constituency Dr Kh Ratankumar is likely to join the Janata Dal - United (JD-U) after leaving the Indian National Congress.
Sources said that the ex-MLA submitted resignation letter to the Manipur Pradesh Congress Party (MPCC) from three different posts he held.
However, he did not mention anything about resigning from the Congress party.
Consequent to his resignation letter, CLP leader Okram Ibobi, AICC CWC member Gaikhangam and AICC Manipur in-charge Bhakta Charan Das had closed door meeting with the ex-MLA on Sunday and as a result, there are possibilities of the ex-MLA not resigning from Congress party, sources added.
Another source said that JD-U is likely to felicitate Dr Kh Ratankumar on Monday but there is no official announcement as of now.
Meanwhile, commenting on the prevailing situation in Congress party, MPCC president MLA N Loken said that Congress party will emerge as the single largest party in the 2022 election and the party is ready to form the next government in alliance with likeminded political parties.
On seeing the huge potential of Congress victory in the election, there are suspicion of BJP buying Congress party's strong contenders including sitting ML As and ex-MLAs tp either join BJP or NDA allies by spending huge fund.
In this present trend, BJP would find it tough to win 15 seats, he said.
On the other hand, INC's election committee has convened a meeting with AICC observers to discuss the matter of choosing INC candidates.
The party would be fielding candidates in all the 60 assembly constituencies and the first list of candidates could be announced on January 25 for some assembly seats.
