52nd 'Amrita Natya Mahotsav' kicks off

The 52nd Short Play Competition for Directors-2021 'Amrita Natya Mahotsav' was inaugurated today at Manipur Dramatic Union hall at Yaiskul Police Lane today.
The programme jointly organised by Theatre Centre Manipur and Sangeet Akademi and participated by 10 group will be concluded on January 21 .
Speaking at the inaugural programme, L Kishworjit, Director Art and Culture, Govt of Manipur, said the annual festival was part of the role played by Theatre Centre in developing theatre in the State.
He added that during earlier times more than 40 groups had participated and MDU hall was fully packed, but with changing times and probably due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only 10 groups were participating in the festival, He expressed confidence that in coming years more and more groups will participate and make the festival more prominent.

Speaking about various schemes of the Government for the welfare of artists, the Director added that Government schemes like Chief Minister gi Artist singi Tengbang has abled the department to extend better assistance to the artists even if they have not received any National or State awards, provided they have contributed to the development of art in the State.
A sum of Rs 2500 to non-awardee and Rs 4000 to an awardee is being provided.
The scheme was launched last year but the set target has not been achieved.
The department has completed the scrutiny of all the applications received and sanction order will come very soon.
He also added that the festival was also organised as a mark of tribute to the founders of Theatre Centre.
