KCC calls for ritual-only Gaan Ngai
Source: Chronicle News Service
Imphal, December 27 2024:
Ahead of Gaan-Ngai, the festival of the Kabui, which falls on January 12, Kabui Customary Council (KCC) has urged village chiefs to hold only ritual aspects of Gaan Ngai without festivities and dances in view of the current unrest situation in the state.
In a release, KCC said that illegal immigrants continue to attack and kill indigenous people, adding that the festival will come and go, but the lives lost due to attacks by illegal immigrants would never be restored.
The Council then urged all concerned to limit Gaan Ngai festival to ritual aspects only as a mark of solidarity with the suffering Meetei community.
